Day 25: Worst Christmas ever

This is for Day 25 of a challenge 30 Days of Writing started by Nicky and Mike of We Work For Cheese. Today’s prompt was: Worst Christmas ever.

This was easy....it was either 1994 or 95- I can't remember which... but I remember it vividly...

Everything was decorated, cookies made, presents from Santa under the tree... pretty darned idyllic-

and then...

all three kids (ages then approximately 2, 5 & 8) AND hubby all woke up around 5 AM with the stomach flu- all feverish, vomiting and all with the runs.

Trust me it wasn't pretty!

Having a couple of kids sick with the flu is generally bad enough but with both hubby and I we could tag team. But this time- my goodness it was absolutely awful- hubby and the kids were all sicker than dogs. I spent all day cleaning up vomit, poop and washing sheets etc. They were all so sick that they couldn't even come down and open their presents!

Finally by evening they were all finally keeping soup and crackers down and I was exhausted! They opened their presents that night but it was very subdued.

Luckily it was a 24 hr. variety flu and they all bounced back the next day... lucky me- a week later on New Year's Eve I got it!

  3. So horrible for everyone, especially the kids, to be sick on Christmas. Then for you to get it for New Year's Eve. Ugh! I remember being sick on my birthday one year. It's bad to be down for the count on a special day that rolls around only once a year.

  4. You can tell kids are really sick if they're not going to open presents. My condolences.

  5. I remember times like this of caring for all the sickies.

  6. You probably win 'worst ever' of stories that a blogger lived through themselves. (At least you weren't being shelled by the German army at the time!)

  7. I can't think of anything worse than that! Thank goodness it was only one day!

  8. My WORST nightmare. When the kids were young I was always so horrified I would get the stomach flu, they would wake up and there would be no presents from Santa. You totally win on worst xmas and deserve to win the whole challenge!
