Spiders

This is for Day 5 of a challenge 30 Days of Writing started by Nicky and Mike of We Work For Cheese in which several other bloggers and I are participating for the month of June. Today’s prompt was “Spiders”.

This guy looks nasty!

Well according to this site most spiders are supposedly good for our environment. They eat a lot of other insects that we do not want. We had a run in last fall when my hubby was bitten by a brown recluse which I talked about here. They are nasty little guys and you don't want to fool around with them.
I generally am not a huge fan of spiders but I am not super freaked out about them like my son is. Yes my 6'1 18 y/o son is a wuss when it comes to spiders and has to have his mommy kill them for him because he is so skeeved out by them! However I also am not the type to just let one live if it is in my house- if I see one I either suck it up with my vacuum (Take that spider!) or I kill' em with whatever is handy.
I once saw a video which said that over the course of our life time we unknowingly swallow several spiders in our sleep- I didn't particularly like that idea but *shrug* I guess you could consider it added protein.
So what is it about spiders that scares so many people?  Is it the multiple legs? The creepiness of how they move? The webs they spin?

In looking for pics of spiderwebs I had to admit that their webs can really be a thing of beauty.

Look at the detail- how delicate they are, you have to respect something that can make something like these!

Does my new found respect mean I will change and set them free?

That I will find a more humane way to get rid of the ones in my house?

Heck no!-
If I find them- I'll still kill'em-  spiders are so creepy...

  1. I'm with you. Time to stamp out spiders. And that's usually what I do when I come across one. I now know why I'm not very hungry when I wake up in the morning. Thanks.

  2. Alright now, people. Enough's ENOUGH! This post makes 3 out of 3 that end in unjustified arachnicide! I'm not god but if I were I wouldn't have made spiders so that vacuum weilding wussies would wipe 'em out wholesale! Smiteable offense I say! But as I'm unfamously not god and have no lightning bolts with which to smite you three -I'm calling PETA.

    1. Hmmm, fabulous idea God! I loves me some pita. Especially with hummus.

      Oh. Wait. PETA, not pita.

      Nevermind...

  3. Not having to deal with a Brown Recluse is another reason why I like living in Canada. It's too cold up here for them!

  4. I should have known that with a prompt like 'Spiders' I would click a link and see some ugly creature peering menacingly at me, but it still gives me the shivers.

Why do I hate spiders so much? It's definitely the speed at which they run. I could probably catch them alive if they moved at a snails pace, but it could run up my arm in a blink of an eye - UGHH!

  5. Spider webs are definitely cool to photograph, if the conditions are right! :D

  6. I admire the beauty of their webs and appreciate their insect-catching abilities. On the other hand, I don't really want them in the house. I will dispatch the smaller ones, and leave the large ones to my hubby.

The spider in your first pictures looks a lot like the one I posted on.

  11. Write more, thats all I have to say. Literally, it seems as though you relied
on the video to make your point. You definitely know what
youre talking about, why throw away your intelligence on just posting videos to your weblog when you could be giving us something informative to read?
