I lost most of my hearing in my right ear about 6 years ago and am left with tinnitis. Tinnitis is a constant high pitched noise (at least for me) that I hear inside my ear all the time- 24/7. They say what I am hearing is the nerve activity of my inner ear. All I know is that it is never quiet anymore- I have gotten used to it, but it can be annoying. The sound and vibration of a fan is my friend- it distracts my brain and makes the tinnitis less noticeable.

  1. I've heard of tinnitus, but wasn't exactly sure what it was. I understand why it would be annoying...

The fan blade in your photo looks to be vibrating quite fast - must be on high speed - good capture!

  2. ACK! Permanent earwig... I'm so sorry to hear that. (No pun intended.) I'm hyper sensitive to sounds so I often sleep with a fan on, but then some nights, the sound of the fan bothers me... a vicious cycle. Here's to good vibrations in the future!

  3. Aw man, that's tough. I get it on occasion but it's usually because I've ingested far too much caffeine. I'm pretty sure I'd go batty if I had to listen to it 24/7. As it is, I've slept with a fan or air conditioner on since I was teenager to block out ambient sounds.

  5. I hear you. I had meningitis a couple years ago and it messed up my hearing. I sleep with a fan every day of the year.

  6. That's unfortunate. But judging from the comments it looks like you have some fans.

  9. I'm so sorry, tinnitus is horrible! I get it occasionally when I have a cold, but if I had to hear it 24/7 I'm sure I would go crazy. I'm glad you're still sane and that you have your friend the fan. ;)

  10. I am sorry for that tinnitus also...glad you have learned to manage it. My daughter has to sleep with three fans going in her room...not to keep it cool but for the 'white' noise...it helps her sleep. It would leave me with a cold year round. Great choice for the vibration topic.

  11. I am sorry to hear about your tinnitus. :( But on a positive note I am glad to hear you found something that helps you drown out the noise.

  14. I'm not sure I could stand losing my hearing. Although my wife says I lost most of it about 32 years ago. At least, I think that's what she's saying to me.
